Hello! I’m Sally Harkinson.

I am an artist based in North Wales, inspired by the dramatic landscapes of sea and mountains that surround me. I originally trained in textile design at Chelsea School of Art in the 1980s and began my creative career in the London textile industry before returning to Wales over 30 years ago.

Back home, I ran a small family interiors business while raising my children, and in the quieter moments I continued to nurture my artistic practice. Over time, that practice grew and evolved, and my focus shifted fully toward painting. This transition was driven by a deep connection to the outdoors and a desire to capture the vivid beauty of the Welsh landscape.

A little bit about me…

Working both in the open air and in the studio, my painting has become expressive yet still rooted in representation. I aim to convey not just the appearance of a place, but the atmosphere, emotion, and lived experience of being there. Through bold colour and intuitive mark-making, I explore the changing seasons, shifting light, and natural rhythms of my environment.

Above all, I hope my paintings invite the viewer on a journey—to see, feel, and breathe in the landscape as I do.
